American Botanical Pharmacy is the exclusive manufacturer and distributor of Dr. Schulze’s original clinical herbal formulae. Dr. Schulze’s herbal formulas and programs have been used for decades to help tens of thousands increase their energy and vitality, and create powerful health naturally. American Botanical Pharmacy was founded in 1994 and is based in Marina del Rey, California.

ABP is at the beginning of its next growth stage, scaling its operations, and investing in the foundation of its future. Sitting at roughly 70-75 employees today, ABP has intent for aggressive, yet disciplined growth of 25-30% in personnel. As important as growth in numbers is, the company is committed to developing an HR presence based on the concept of “Human Potential” rather than “Command and Control” performance.

The Sr. Director / VP of Human Resources will be responsible for recommending and then implementing the best systems, practices, and protocols for the organization while working directly with the CEO to create a progressive culture for a thriving company.

Responsibilities


The ABP VP of HR’s Principle Charter

  • Create a framework for HR at ABP that continues to move us into our next stage of growth based on collaboration, transparency and team performance by providing a roadmap & playbook while also executing tactically
  • Strengthen ABP’s HR function along these four pillars: (1) Strategic organizational planning [chess, not checkers], (2) Talent acquisition and development, (3) Culture & employee experience, and (4) Administration & Compliance
  • Participate with and support the senior leadership team and its development
  • Help design and nurture a thriving business community inside the company

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assess and improve HR Systems and processes; leverage recent and upcoming shifts to digital operations
  • Expertly handle difficult situations around unacceptable performance and behavior
  • Establish clear and actionable standards and metrics for assessing employee impact including senior management
  • Be an ABP brand/company evangelist; make the company mission an internal/cultural reality
  • Make sure company is compliant with all HR regulations and does not have any liability and/ or exposure regarding personnel issues
  • Define, design, and develop a performance management system that supports the company and employee growth within a progressive framework.
  • Build and sustain a high functioning HR department
  • Proactively manage the company’s desirability in the marketplace.
  • Build professional trust with the employees while supporting company vision and principles
  • Develop organizational systems and protocols of mature organizations while respecting the agility and entrepreneurial spirit of a small-midsize company.

Requirements


Core Requirements

  • 12+ years of human resources and organizational development experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on mid-senior level HR management experience.
  • Extensive experience providing strategic direction as well as hands-on tactical HR execution.
  • Experience successfully designing and implementing creative performance management systems that support the company and employee growth
  • Proven experience building and managing high functioning HR departments
  • Experience creating corporate cultures that foster positive company image
  • Demonstrated ability to build professional trust with the employees while supporting company vision and principles
  • Experience creating HR systems for environments ranging from large, mature organizations to agile, small-midsize companies.
  • Experience developing corporate cultures that strive for a positive customer experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree. MBA preferred.
